February 18th is Heritage Day!
This year we celebrate Maud Lewis. A wonderful Nova Scotian artist that expressed herself with brightly coloured paintings of her world. They once sold for $5 each but are now worth 10s of thousands of dollars. To learn a bit about this piece of our heritage click on the picture.

African Heritage Month
We share an incredible history in this country. Like a story book it has good and bad throughout its pages. It took many different kinds of people to get us here today and it will take many kinds of people to take us to where we are going.
I invite you to learn more about Canada's history
What do the Black Loyalist have to do with Nova Scotia?
How many African Nova Scotian communities can you name?
How did Viola Desmond's actions make history?
What happened to Africville?

Like to read? Have a mind for detail? Like to compete?
Ms.
White is seeking students in grades 7 to 9 who are interested in
taking part in this year's Battle of the Books. To prepare, students
will read from a list of books and keep notes of the details found in
each book. Then in May they will battle with teams from others schools to claim the 2019 title.
Battle takes place at CEC, Truro.
