In the post-Columbine era, many believed that kids and teens needed hard discipline to keep them on the straight and narrow. However, as more and more young people were receiving shocking sentences for minor offenses a disturbing pattern of corruption and lies surfaced.

This is the true story of corrupt judges designing a "Kids for Cash" scheme that sent more than 2400 children and teens to a for-profit detention center.

TRCA Spot Light - Sunrise on The Reaping

 

Are you a fan of the Hunger Games series? Then this may be for you. This story takes you back to the years of young Haymitch and he's been selected to take part in the 50th annual Hunger Games. But this year is special, it's the Quarter Quell and this means twice as many tributes will be taken. Pitted against people from his own district and torn from the girl he loves, Haymitch quickly understands that he is set up to fail. Find out what gives him the strength to survive.

TRCA Showcase

 An incredible graphic novel about Ash's journey to leave society and live in a remote cabin. Tired of not feeling heard, Ash decides to find their grandfather's secret cabin and stay there forever. But did all of Ash's planning to survive alone and live off the land fully prepare them for what lies ahead?

February is African Heritage Month!

This year's theme focuses on Strength in Unity: Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power and Progress. The library has some great books that showcase this theme quite well. Come check them out!

There are some great books and gift cards for Indigo Books to be won! To participate all you need to do is to answer a few questions about some books you've sampled.                   All ballots must be turned in by Feb. 11th. Draw is Feb. 13th.

2026 TRCA

The 2026 Teen Reader's Choice nominees are ready for you to take part in the annual read, vote, share challenge. To participate all you need to do is read any of the 10 nominees. Vote for your favourite from May18th to May 22nd.

All the books can be found in your library and on SORA.

Enter the Draw!

 As part of Family Literacy Day, classes have the chance to enter a draw to win books and gift cards. To participate students will need to answer 3 questions relating to genres they have selected for toppings! Ballots may be picked up in the library.

Since 1999, community groups across Canada observe January 27th as the day to celebrate the importance of reading and engaging in literacy-related activities as a family. Did you know that taking time each day to read or do a learning activity builds a stronger you for your future? Now that you are in the know ask yourself, how can you celebrate this day?
